Hello, Darlings! Today’s Topic is Fall Trends- Hit Or Miss. I took the summer off from blogging to take care of home life. My husband had hip replacement surgery and although he did great, I needed to concentrate on his care. So basically, I have been homebound for most of the summer.
But as we are heading into fall, it is time to start thinking about fall fashions. The weather here is hot and humid (very, very humid) so “Sweater Weather” is still a couple of months away. I will use this time to do a closet check so I will be ready when the weather turns cooler.
Fall Trends – Hit Or Miss

Not All Trends Will Work And That Is OKAY!
I have never been a “trend chaser” but trends will dictate what is in the stores. Making small changes and additions to your wardrobe can help you from looking outdated and out of style. Also, knowing and accepting what trends will work with your body type and personal style will help you from wasting money on clothes that will never work or you will not wear. SHOP SMART!
Color Trends For Fall
You can count on fall color trends to be filled with harvest colors. But some years the powers to be will throw in some bolder and brighter colors to play with. Color trends are set months if not a year in advance so retailers can plan their purchases. Not all of these colors will work for you, but it is fun to look in the stores and find these colors on the racks.

Top Fall Trends In Denim
Denim is the first place to start when you are building your wardrobe. The good news is that retailers have FINALLY learned that not all of us have the same body type. Now you will find many styles, sizing, and colors, something for everyone. Some years you are going to see more choices in certain styles as they are deemed “trends for fall”. Knowing what denim styles and shapes work with your body is key.
Also, look for denim with elastane for lighter weight and more stretch. The traditional, heavy-weight denim is out. You will also still see colored and distressed denim is still “in-style”, you will not see as much this season.
***Note- if you find a pair of jeans you absolutely LOVE, buy an extra pair. This is especially true with the newer fabrics with elastane. The elastane allows for more stretch, but these fibers break down quicker and your jeans will wear out much faster. Taking special care to wash and not dry will help.
Flares And Wide Legs Are HOT This Season
If you are a skinny jean lover, this is not the year for you. You will still be able to find them, but the stores will be full of flares, wide leg, and stove pipe style jeans and pants. But… this is a great time to try a new style and see how it works. Most body types can wear flares, boot cuts jeans are great on d Body or Pear Shapes. Be careful of the wide leg, stove pipe style. It can make your legs look like tree trunks- YIKES.

Going to see a lot of high-rise jeans this fall which is great for helping to hide the tummy. If you are Petite, look for brands that sell specifically Petite sizing and look for inseam numbers to avoid having to hem. Frayed hems are still in style, so if it is too long, grab the scissors and cut them to the correct length, and give them a frayed look. Instyle and save money.

Faux Leather/Leather Pants Are The IT Item Of The Season
Faux leather pants are EVERYWHERE! They are the IT item for Fall 2022. Are you going to try them? For me, maybe..in black. I saw Chicos has a cropped version that I might try. For me, it is a fit and lifestyle issue. As a d Body Shape/Pear, I am going to need room in the derriere. So stretch is important for fit in the bottom and waist. Also, as my Autumn season weather is rather warm and humid, don’t know how I will feel with faux leather bottoms. Finally, do I have enough places to wear them to justify the cost?

If faux leather pants are not for you, try adding a leather jacket or vest to your wardrobe. Leather is an interesting fabric to add to your wardrobe because it gives both warmth and a new texture. True leather can be heavy, so check out some of the “faux” leather options for lighter weight, ease of care, and a lower price point.
Hot Prints For Fall
Prints are usually really big in the fall and this year you will find them everywhere-tops, sweaters, coats, jackets, accessories, and shoes. There is a couple of distinct trends in prints this year- Equestrian, Animal (Especially Zebra), Fall Floral, and Houndstooth. While not designated as a trend this year, plaid is always hot for the fall. Not seeing as many camo prints as in past years, but remember… if you love it.. wear it!

Trends For Shoes And Accessories
This is an area where you can update your wardrobe and wear one of the new trends without investing a lot of money. But here too, if it doesn’t work for you- It Is OKAY! In all honesty, very few people even know what trends are new. But it is fun to try new things.
Not Your Grandmother’s Pearls
Pearls are HOT this season, especially oversized pearls. The trend is called Pearlcore, and you will see pearls in many colors, multi-layered, mixed with other materials such as chains, and lucite.

Cuff Bracelets Are BACK
For the past couple of years, stacked multiple beaded bracelets have been the “thing”. This year you are going to see the return of the cuff.

Chains Are BACK
Chain details on purses and shoes are back for fall this year. I even saw where you can buy a chain purse strap to change out your current one from Amazon.

Fringe For Fall
Fringe continues to be a trend this Fall in accessories, jewelry, and clothing. Not everyone can wear fringe, especially earrings. Try it out and see if you like it.

Barbie Core- All Things Pink!
With Fuchsia as a HOT color this fall, Barbie Core takes it to a whole new level. Lots of different shades of pink in everything from clothing to accessories and even home decor. I will not be going crazy for the Barbie Core trend, but I will use it as an opportunity to snag some pink items that I had on my wish list.

Trends In Shoes
Trends in shoes this year include the tall boot, animal print flats, loafers with chain details, higher heel ankle boots, and statement sneakers.

Before Your Buy- Evaluate!
Before you buy, take some time to do an evaluation. Start with answering a couple of questions. This will save you so much money. Because no matter how HOT the trend is, if you will not wear it, it is throwing money away.
- Does it work with my body type?
- What are the BEST colors for my skin and color palette?
- Does it work with my lifestyle?
- Will it work with my climate?
No need to buy sweaters or coats if your climate never gets cold (or does for a week only). Knowing your current lifestyle is key, I have no need for dressy or work-related styles of clothing. I need to concentrate on more athleisure clothing. Keeping it real will save you money!
Shop Your Closet- FIRST!
This week I started to look thru my closet and see where I needed to “fill” some holes. I made a list of some items I need to replace, and others I wanted to add. For me, the list is very small and I will only concentrate on those items. Many of the new trends just don’t work for me and I have no need to add them to my wardrobe.
Don’t Stop Caring About Fashion!
It is easy to just stop caring about fashion. Covid restrictions really put a dampener on the industry as everyone just lived in sweatpants for a year. It got us all used to comfort clothing. I think we can find a nice middle ground between fashion and comfort clothing. Take time this fall to explore your fashion, and see how you can re-incorporate it into your current lifestyle.

Great blog filled with very useful information. Thank you, Regan!
Thank you, Camille! The last couple of years of really studying fashion and learning more about color/body type/and style personality has helped me so much. I love having the platform to share with others.
