Hello, Darlings! Today’s topic is Keto Diet- Getting Back On Track After The Holidays. I fell off the wagon… Not too bad but I let carbs and sugars back into my body and I feel terrible. Bloating, weight gain, low energy levels have all come back in force. Not only that, but I am seeing some of my old health problems re-emerge such as acid reflux, sleeping deprivation, and joint pain.
Keto Diet- Getting Back On Track After The Holidays

Step One- Sugar Detox
I will be honest with you, I dread this because I know how my body will react. It is like an addict who has to go into rehab for a second time, they know what is coming. And to be really honest, sugar is like a drug. I keep telling myself that sweets were poison, but this time the temptations were just too great.

No Alcohol January
All alcohol whether it is beer, wine, or mixed drinks has sugar. Since sugar detox is the goal, this month I am going NO ALCOHOL JANUARY. I have been partaking too much in the joys of the holidays. Too much wine, too many cocktails, and now it is time to get that aspect of my diet/lifestyle back under control. I have found that I can successfully live on the Keto Diet and still have an occasional glass of wine (have to be very particular about which wine). But right now it is all about getting under control and losing weight.

Clean Out The Fridge And Pantry
During the “Detox” period, temptations are just too great. You need to do a total clean-out of the fridge and pantry. Be brutal! For me, this includes carbs such as crackers/bread. If you are like me and have a family member who is not dieting, give them a section of “their foods“.
Stay away from anything labeled Sugar Free as it will have a sugar substitute or sugar alcohol which can be just as bad as sugar, or even worse. Also, remember fruit is sugar too, nature’s candy.

Stock The Fridge With Healthy “Clean” Options
Because I am transitioning into the Keto Diet, my healthy options will include cheeses, nuts, and fat bombs. I am also stocking pre-made healthy meal options from Eat To Evolve. Eat To Evolve is a meal home delivery service. You order online and pick your delivery date. It comes to your home in a box with ice inserts to keep it cool during transport. You can choose your diet plan choice also -Keto, Primal, Paleo. They have meal plans or you can choose A-La-Cart.

The biggest problem with dieting is planning ahead. I do not do a lot of cooking, hard for just the two of us. So I depend on meal delivery services to keep me from defaulting to fast food when the question “What do you want for dinner?”. I have easy grab-and-go meals so I don’t have to think or get out in the cold and fetch groceries or food.
Order A Good Electrolyte
When you start a new diet, especially one that restricts carbs & sugars you are going to find out that you will need to go to the bathroom more often. This is not a bad thing if you think of it as flushing away all that excess water weight you are carrying around. But, you can get dehydrated if you don’t drink enough water.
Also, on that first week, to prevent the “Keto Flu” (headaches, nausea, upset stomach, muscle cramps) it helps to have an electrolyte handy to replenish the potassium, magnesium, and salt that you will lose. It is important that the electrolyte does not have any sugar.

I use a powdered electrolyte from Dr. Berg. It is raspberry and lemon-flavored. Just enough flavor that you have a little bit of taste. Some people don’t like the “taste” of water and this helps. The can will go a long way. I also use it for replenishing minerals when I exercise and play tennis.
Helpful Hint

Many times we eat out of habit, boredom, or thirst. I have a nice selection of hot teas on hand when I feel a craving take place. You can also use bone broth or just plan broth. I like to make a little “toddy” from chicken broth with lemon juice and Greek seasonings. I use the broth trick when I start adding Intermitting Fasting to my diet regime (starting in February).
Interested In The Keto Diet?

If you are interested in the Keto Diet I recommend reading Dr. Annette Bosworth’s (aka Dr. Boz)Keto Continuum. It is a workbook to teach you the correct keto chemistry. She also has great instructional videos on her Youtube Channel.
I have also taken her Consistently Keto Online Course and found it very helpful.
Final Step- Take Weight And Measurements

NO!!! Unfortunately, those scales and measuring tape don’t lie. This is where you need a buddy to help with correctly measuring your body. The good news is that this is the worse part and the numbers on the sheet are only going down. I am really glad that I took measurements because on the weeks when I had weight loss stalls, I could see progress in inches lost.
Just Completed My Personal Weigh In And Measurements
Good News! I just completed my weigh-in and measurement day and I did not do too much damage over the holidays. I still gained 5lbs but I feel I am in a good place to start fresh. My goal is to weigh in every day and take measurements once a month.
Losing weight, breaking insulin resistance is a huge part of getting healthy. My weight loss goal is another 30 lbs to get me out of the overweight BMI category and have more energy, feel better, better sleep, and the list goes on.
