Summer Skincare- Keeping It Simple

Hello, Darlings! Today’s topic is Summer Skin Care- Keeping It Simple. Summer can bring some challenges for skincare. Heat and humidity coupled with dryness of a/c and then add the sun itself can lead to some issues. But, it doesn’t have to be complicated. I have found that “keeping it simple” is better for the busy lifestyle of summer. It is easy to forget or even ignore skincare during the summer.

Summer Skincare- Start With A Clean Face

Summer Skincare- Start With CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser to keep your face clean and protected
Cerave Hydrating Facial Cleanser is my go-to for facial skincare for the summer

I do nothing but sweat during the summer. Here in Alabama, it is hot and humid and I feel dirty all the time. So one of my first products for skincare is a cleanser. I am a huge fan of the Cerave skincare line. The cleanser I use is the Cerave Hydrating Facial Cleanser. This product is great for getting your face clean without disrupting your skin’s natural barriers (it is not harsh). Created by dermatologists, CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser is a gentle face wash with ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid that work to restore the skin’s natural barrier to help the skin lock in moisture. Plus, I like the larger size with a pump which I keep both at my sink and in the shower for ease of use.

Summer Skincare- Moisturizer For The Face

Summer Skincare- Moisturinze with CeraVe moisturizer that helps restore and protect your skin barrier

Due to summer heat, dirty, sunscreen, makeup, and other “stuff”, I do a lot of cleansing of my face. Each time I do, it slowly breaks down the natural skin barriers and this leads to dryness and itching. For my moisturizer, in the summer I use Cerave Moisturizing Cream. I like the feel of this product, you can use it all over your body (not just your face) so it makes skincare easier. Plus it is great for relief from itching which can come from exposure to the sun or pool chemicals. It is both day and night cream.

Great option if you are looking for facial moisturizer with sunscreen, Cerave Am Facial Moisturizing Lotion

For moisturizer with sun protection, try the Cerave Am Facial Moisturizer with Broad Spectrum 30 SPF protection. This product will not clog your pores and is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. It goes on very light and non-greasy which makes it a good choice for summer.

Summer Skincare- Sunscreen Is Your BEST Friend

Growing up we did not talk about sunscreen, no it was all about tanning. Years later we discovering the damage caused by lack of sun protection. This included premature wrinkles, unsightly dark spots, and of course skin cancer. Many skincare products can reduce and even reverse sun damage.

Summer Skincare- Facial Sunscreen. I use CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen with 50 SPF

Sunscreen is important to me and I look for a high SPF for my face. My favorite facial sunscreen is Cerave Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen with Broad Spectrum 50 SPF. This facial sunscreen is a 100%-mineral, oil-free sunscreen with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide that forms a protective barrier on your skin’s surface to help reflect the sun’s UVA and UVB rays without irritating sensitive skin. The formula has three essential ceramides to help restore the skin’s barrier and provide long-lasting hydration, as well as niacinamide to help calm your skin. It has been awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance and the Skin Cancer Foundation Daily Use Seal of Approval.

Looking for a Tinted Sunscreen - try CeraVe new hydrating mineral sunscreen in sheer tint for a more natural look without the white sheen of the regular version
New to the market, Cerave has added a facial sunscreen with tint to give you a more natural look but skin has the zinc oxide for skin protection.

Many other facial sunscreens irritate my skin and will not stay on when I sweat, getting sunscreen in my eyes. This is my go-to sunscreen for tennis and other outdoor sports and activities. It will go on with a slightly white tint because of the zinc oxide. Cerave has recently added a newer version, Cerave Tinted Hydrating Moisturizer with SPF 30, The tinted version is supposed to go on without the whiteness of zinc oxide. I have not had the opportunity to try it yet.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Sunscreen reminds me of the tanning lotion were wore as teens.

There are so many great sunscreens for the body out on the market. For me, it is all about ease of use, so I choose sprays that will make it easy to re-apply. My favorites invoke the smells of summer’s past-Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Sunscreen and Neutrogena Beach Defense.

After The Sun Lotions For Summer Skin Care

So many lotions on the market that I go for scent. I am really particular about smells, I like a clean smell that is not too floral or fruity. For summer, I am LOVING the At The Beach scented line from Bath and Body Works. Bath and Body Works are always having a sale so I stock up early in the season. I have both the shower gel and the body lotion. Nothing feels or smells so wonderful after a day in the sun than a clean smell that reminds me of summer.

Summer Skincare- After the sun lotion. Try Bath and Body Works At The Beach for moisturizing lotion with shea butter and the scent of summer
Great moisturizing lotion with shea butter for after a day at the beach. The smell is a blend of frangipani blossoms, toasted coconut, and bergamot waters. At The Beach is from Bath And Body Works.

A retired fragrance brought back by popular demand, Sea Island Shore is a clean fragrance for those who do not like anything smelling fruity.

Summer Skincare- Treat Yourself To A Facial

If you have never had a facial, you are so missing out. I love spa treatments and ask for gift cards for birthdays/Christmas/Mother’s Day. Usually, I go for a massage, but recently I have been treating myself to facials. Facials are great ways to get your skin hydrated and remove dead skin/clogged pores. In the past, I hated facials because they did nothing but pick at my skin. Those days are gone and now facial treatments are a combination of mini massage and skincare.

Great for hydration and exfoliation, schedule a facial treatment as part of your summer skincare

Woodhouse Spa is a chain of spas that provide amazing treatments. My favorite facial is a Pure Hydro Facial that uses suction to remove dead skin and clear pores. Less invasive and the results are great. I have also done the Woodhouse Minkyti Facial which is a seaweed facial for hydration, great for summer skincare.

Most Important Summer Skincare Advice- Keep Hydrated!

It is so easy to get dehydrated in the summer. I drink tons of water, and that is great but I am flushing all my nutrients straight out of my body. Lesson learned from years past, you need to replenish your electrolytes along with getting plenty of water. As I am on the Keto Diet I am very careful what electrolytes I put back in my body. Many of the products on the market (such as your Gatorades) are full of sugar.

Summer Skincare- Keep hydrated with water plus electrolytes. My favorite is Dr. Berg's Electrolyte powder in Raspberry & Lemon

My favorite electrolyte supplement is Dr. Berg’s Electrolyte Powder in Raspberry & Lemon. This product has no sugar and easily mixes with water and has a great taste. Perfect for keeping you hydrated with those important minerals. I put this in my water every day, and take extra on tennis game days.

Summer Skincare Comes Down To – Keep It Simple

With busy summer schedules, thinking about skincare is not top on my priority list. But it is important and I need to have some products on hand. All the Cerave products can be found in your local Walmarts/Targets/Drug Stores at affordable prices. Skincare does not have to be expensive.

Summer skincare comes down to this- keep it clean, keep it moisturized, and hydrate!

  1. Regan- I noticed that you didn’t mention a serum. Do you think they are necessary? I succumbed to buying a line of products from a friend that included several different serums. In the end, it was so complicated that I gave up using the whole line and wasted my money.

Thanks for featuring products that are affordable and dermatologist- recommended.

    1. Good Question! Serums have their place. But many of the good qualities found in serums (usually in larger amounts) can be found in many beauty products. For example, CeraVe’s cleanser and moisturizers have Hyaluronic Acid ( in smaller quantities) that help your skin maintain moisture and give it a plump look. Other products found in many serums include Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Retinol. Retinol is a great anti-aging/exfoliating product but you have to be very careful with sun exposure when using it. I have serums but I tend to use them more in the winter months, giving my skin an extra boost during the drier months. While in the summer, I “keep it simple”, concentrating on keeping my skin clean, moisturized, and sun protected. Like you, if a skincare regime gets too complicated, I will not do it. Hope this helps- Regan
