Hello, Darlings! Today I will show you How To Create An At-Home Pilates Studio
Once COVID shutdowns hit, I realized how much I came to depend on my Pilates workout. Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. It strengthens and stabilizes your core body, which is your foundation so that you can move efficiently while improving your posture, flexibility, and mobility.

I have been taking pilates classes for about a year now. I work with Mickie O’Neal, of Milestone Motion, my movement specialist who has been working on getting my body back into alignment, strengthening my core, and creating better flexibility. One of my main goals as I approach my “senior years” is to be active. Really I should say “active without pain”.
As an avid tennis player, I have endured injuries throughout the years. But lately, it seems to be harder and slower to recuperate. I got into the habit of seeing the chiropractor on a regular basis for an adjustment, just to get out of alignment within 24 hours.
Since incorporating pilates into my workout routine, I have had fewer injuries, quicker recovery time from tennis matches, and no visits to the chiropractor. I am moving better and playing better tennis with less pain.
What Is Pilates?

Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. Pilates moves tend to target the core, although the exercises work other areas of your body as well. Your goal should be to take your time with the exercises, focus on the task at hand, and connect to your breath. It is not about a bunch of rep.
Pilates Studio Closed Due To COVID
Unfortunately, the Pilates studio I worked out had to shut down due to COVID restrictions. I tried working out at home, but it was not the same because I did not have the equipment.
After talking with Mickie, I did some research online and found the company that makes the same equipment I use in the studio, Balanced Body. The equipment is expensive, but since me, my hubby, and daughter were going to be using it, I decide to pull the trigger.
Before We Create An At-Home Pilates Studio- We Needed A Floor Plan
Some of the equipment is rather large and we wanted to make sure it would fit. Anna (my daughter) create through Homzie Designs a room design for my at-home Pilates Studio. We decided that my son’s room (who is married and lives in town) would be the perfect space. His bedroom furniture is going to the lake for our downstairs lake bedroom.

How To Create At-Home Pilates Studio – Research Equipment
Mickie had warned me that the equipment was expensive, but the cost of shipping was terrible. There are other companies that make Pilates equipment for home use, but they are not near the quality. I have made the mistake of buying a cheap treadmill and workout bikes, only to trash them out. This time I was going to “bite the bullet” and buy the best.
I chose to order my pilates equipment from Balanced Body. Here are the pieces I chose for my at-home Pilates studio
Rialto Reformer With Tower

Core Align With Freestanding Ladder

**Before you start your workout, I advise having an instructor come to your home and make sure you know and understand the equipment and safety instruction.
Equipment For Floor Work
I love my pilates floor work and wanted to make sure there is a place I can close the doors and spend quality time. I store any extra equipment and extra pilates machine equipment in the closet. Here is a list of my floor work equipment
My Pilates Floor Equipment include
- yoga mat
- large foam roller
- pilates arc
- inflatable ball– buy a quality ball!!!
- smaller posture balls
- foot corrector
- pilates flexible circle ring
- an assortment of hand weights
- TRX band
Don’t Have Space For Full At-Home Pilates Studio?
Many people don’t have room for a full at-home pilates studio. But still want to work out using quality equipment, there are several ways you can create an area for you to workout. Look for equipment that can be stored either under a bed or vertical upright and out of the way.

Start With Basic Floor Exercise Equipment
Don’t have space for a pilates studio, but would love to have an area and some basic equipment to stretch out? Here are the basics to get you started.

Foam Roller

These are the pieces I started out with and are my traveling pieces. I have all three of these at my beach and lake house to roll and stretch after a long care ride.
Take A Peek At The Finished Pilates At-Home Studio
I will be honest, I LOVE having my At-Home Pilates Studio. Working out on my schedule, instead of a studio, has been a blessing. Mickie came to the house and gave us an instructional class on the equipment and our “personal settings and exercises” for each piece of equipment. I am planning to have her come more for private instructions.

This is gorgeous, Regan! What a fantastic space!
Thanks Betsy! We LOVE the space. Just got finished working out.
This is a fantastic space. I know you are going to enjoy!
It is the BEST thing I have done. Love having a quiet space to stretch and workout.
