Hello, Darlings!
Today we are going to talk about what to wear for Thanksgiving dinner. First and most importantly, do not wait till the last minute to plan your outfit. Let’s think ahead and have an outfit or several options so you look good and feel good for the holiday.

What To Wear For Thanksgiving Dinner-Comfort Is Key
If you have gone through your closet and updated your basics you should already have an idea of how you can put together an outfit for the day. Couple of things you need to keep in mind is
- Do you have to travel?
- The venue (more casual/more dressy)
- Are you going to be taking holiday pics?
- Are you the cook?
- Most important- weather and venue
Most Thanksgiving meals are held indoors, but you still may venture outdoors so layering for comfort is key. Nothing too hot/heavy and NOTHING binding.
Start With The Bottoms
Ponte knit pants are KING of comfort. Pick some with expandable waistband and forgot the Spanx. Black/dark denim jeans (love my Wit & Wisdom lots of stretch) are also another option. Black is good for not only a slimming effect but it doesn’t show stains if you are the cook.

Add A Top
According to your climate, this top can be a cami, tank, short sleeve or long sleeve. Whatever you choose, it needs to be something that will look good on its own. Look for a top with flattering necklines such as v-neck, drape, cowl, or scoop. If your sweater layer is a solid color, you can choose a print for added interest. Another suggestion is to add a solid color in a complementary color or black. Stay away from white or cream (food accidents) Your chosen sweater is a pattern, then leave the top solid, pulling out one of the colors in the sweater.

Also, think about the material. Avoid silks (again… food accidents) or any top that is tight and binding. Cotton, cotton blends, polyester, rayons are all good choices

Add Additional Layer Of Sweater

Finally, Sweater Weather! Now, this is important….. When choosing your sweater think comfort. If you are going to be dining inside you do not want to be too hot. Lots of family members, along with cooking, and indoor heating or fireplace and the room gets hot quick. A thinner sweater that you can wear comfortably is better. If you go outside you can always put on a coat or jacket. Avoid bulky ponchos, ruanas as they are hard to eat in.
Shop For Sweaters From Target
Target has a great selection of fall colored sweaters instore and online. Use your RED card for additional savings. The long duster style in the “in style” of the season. If you are petite, you can still wear it, just make sure you create that “column of color” with top/pant/shoes all solid color to make you look taller.

Other choices include lighter weight vegan jacket or blazer can be a good choice for layering. This jacket info is in Vegan Suede Moto Jacket By Peach

Vest Is Another Option For Layering

I love the vest. They are not bulky and can add interest and layers to an outfit. When choosing one for Thanksgiving, stay away from faux fur that can shed. Choose lighter weight vegan faux leathers/suedes or even a quilted vest. There are great crochet vests out on the market too.

Accessorize With Scarf Or Statement Jewelry

Now let’s punch the outfit up with accessories. Large bulky scarves are not easy to eat in. Go for a scarf that is thinner weight and hangs versus a lot of material at your throat. This lightweight infinity scarf is from Cato

A better choice would be to “level up” your outfit with statement jewelry. Multi-layer necklaces are really popular this season, or even a statement necklace to draw attention up to your face. Don’t forget the Rule Of 3’s for accessorizing, choose earrings and a bracelet/watch to complete the look.

This ruana works because it is lightweight and shorter sleeves. I added a black v-neck long sleeve top with a statement necklace.
Think About Your Shoes
Again, comfort is key. Chose shoes for comfort, booties or flat shoes are a better choice than heels. If you are short, black shoes to match your pants will make you look taller. If you are taller, you can have fun with your shoes.

My favorite booties are Blondo Villa Waterproof Booties. Zappos carries them (shipped by Amazon) so you can get them quickly. My daughter just got them in Mushroom Suede

What To Wear For Thanksgiving Dinner
If you have been following me and have done your wardrobe check, you should have several options. Remember the Formula For Easy Fall Outfits, level up your accessories if your meal is more formal. Ultimately, comfort is key- stretch pants, no Spanx, and nothing binding or that will show stains.
You want to enjoy the time with your family and friends by feeling good about yourself and comfortable. No last-minute crying in the closet because you have nothing to wear (been there… done that..)plan your outfit TODAY!!! Order anything you need to complete your look.

Wow! Great post! Thank you for all the ideas! The good news, its at a relative’s house this year, so I am just bringing a dish and helping cook when I get there 🙂 Liking the light layers idea. I’m thinking lightweight cardigan 🙂
My outfit for this year is a lighter weight cardigan that I can take off it is hot or leave on. I trying to add some fall colors to my wardrobe this year. Next is planning the all-important Christmas card pic
Such great options for Thanksgiving or even Christmas. I do have my outfit planned and wrote a post about it yesterday. My favorite of yours I think is the one with the fuzzy vest.

I do love my fuzzy vest. When I wear it I always have people who come up to me and “pet” me. Is a little weird at church but I am used to it. I am looking for a snake print top to wear under it. Saw a lady at a dinner party with one on and was coveting it. Hers was sold out.
You always have so many great outfit ideas and are very thorough in giving styling options! I love it. Thanks for linking up with me!
