Picking Out A Scarf That Is Right For Your Body Type
Because a scarf draws so much attention, you want to make sure that attention is in the right place. Take into consideration your skin undertone in picking out the color/print.
Pears/ Apple Body Types- Choose scarves and tie them in a way that brings attention up to your face but are not so long that they bring attention to your waist and hips
Carrot/Straight Body Types– Choose scarves and tie them in a way that brings more attention down.
Curvy Body Type– Stay away from bulky scarves. Thinner scarves and those that tie at the neck are a great choice.
Large bulky blanket scarves will overpower petite women and those who are larger busted. Smaller busted and taller women can get away with wearing a bulkier scarf. *** If you like the blanket style but it is too bulky, cut it in half. Many of them have unfinished hems and it is easy to make them look good.
For The Ultimate Fashionista-Sunglasses And Eyeglasses
Choosing eyewear can be very personal. This is where selfies come in handy. Take a picture of yourself in the glasses and view it away from the mirror. That way to can objectively decide if they are right for you. Don’t be afraid to experiment with shapes too. Below is a guide to help you decide on the best shape for your face.

Shopping For Hats
Hats are HOT for fall/winter. So many great choices of fabric, styles, and color.
I recently purchased the Dakota Scala Wool Felt Hat from Tenth Street Hats. It is a unisex hat that I was able to get in a small ( I have a tiny head). They carry a higher quality of hats and have a huge selection of different styles. Their website has a virtual try-on app that allows you to see what the hat will look like on.
Let’s Belt It- Belts For Function And Style
The newest trend this year is to belt ponchos and ruanas. This is a great look for tall women who are straight, curvy, or carrot-shaped. Pear/Apple-shaped women have to be very careful with belts as they draw attention to the waist and hips. Black belts are great for not drawing attention but still providing a function. Belts are a great tool if you want to emphasize your waist while layering. You can find belts in tan and various animal prints. You don’t have to spend tons of money on belts. I buy my belts at Target.
Wardrobe Basics- Hosiery
Pantyhose are so what out of vogue. The days of pumps and pantyhose as the uniform of professionals has pasted. But they still are a necessity in our wardrobe, especially in the fall/winter. They provide warmth and color to our legs. Avoid “fake looking” nude colors and opt for more sheer in nude, black, barely black, or even a black/grey called quicksilver.
Hosiery You Need To Have On Hand
- Black Sheer Panty Hose For Fall/Winter Special Occasion
- Tights If You Live In A Colder Climate
- Knee Hi Stockings To Wear With Flats Ballet Style Shoes ( I have both nude and black)
- Trouser Socks- Great To Wear With Pants And Boots
- Athletic Socks
- Fuzzy House Socks- Perfect To Keep Your Feet Warm On Cold Morning
- Boot Socks For Colder Climates
Shop For Black Sheer Panty Hose
Doubles as both pantyhose and shapewear, you will want to have these in your wardrobe ready to go. Many stores are not stocking them and if you try to run out at the last minute you may come back empty-handed. Grab multiple pairs as the sheer fabric makes it easy to snag and tear.
Shop For Tights
Many for warmth, tights are a great option with dresses and skirts. You can find tights in colors and prints as well. Pear-shaped women need to stick with black or tights that match their skirts to minimize attention down and create a column of color that will make you look taller. Straight and especially Carrot shaped women can have fun with colors and prints.
Shop For Knee Hi Stockings And Trouser Socks
Perfect to wear with flat shoes and boots for winter, they provide style and function. Many have compression and support features for those who need due to varicose veins or blood clot prevention.
No show or ankle socks are the styles. You can also find athletic socks with moisture-wicking fabric to keep your feet dry. In crew style, you can find socks with compression features if needed. No need to spend high dollars on socks, I buy them in multi-packs from Target.
Fuzzy House Socks
Oh, how I love mine. I don’t like “house shoes” because they make me feel matronly. Give me my fuzzy socks any day. They make FABULOUS stocking stuffers and gifts. Check out the ones from Barefoot Dreams.
These are heavier, higher socks to wear under boots for warmth. Under my fashion boots, I usually wear trousers socks but if it is a cold/rainy day or I am skiing, boot socks are a MUST. I look for Merino Wool and moisture-wicking to keep my feet warm and dry. If you are playing in the snow, hiking, hunting, or skiing-keeping your feet warm and dry is a MUST
