The blogging/social media world has been a blessing in that I have found so many people who are encouraging and inspiring not only in my blogging journey but in life’s journey as well.

What State Are You From And Where Do You Currently Live?
I was born in Augsburg, Germany while my father was stationed there when he served in the army. After that my family moved all over: Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia. I went to college at Auburn University where I met my husband, Dan. We got married and settled down in Hoover, Alabama a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama.
Tell Us About How You Got Started Blogging And Your Main Theme?
I actually got started blogging as a “bonding project” with my daughter Anna. We each started blogs and learned all the technical stuff you need to create a blog. There is so much that goes into blogging such as branding, target audience, social media… It can be quite overwhelming. Nifty 50 And Fabulous is fashion, beauty, lifestyle blog geared to women my age (over 50) and the topics that interest us. As my empty-nester life changes and evolves, the topics change. Right now I am blogging more about health and wellness as I try to get my own health in order.
What Is Your Favorite Social Media Platform And Why?
Facebook is my favorite social media platform, but they keep changing their algorithms. I created a Facebook Group- Nifty 50 Fabulous Friends to post my blog post and my blogger friends. I also post interest and funny things I find on Facebook. The group is geared to women over 50. I have also been having fun with Instagram Stories.

After taking care of children for so many years, now its time to focus inward and start looking at my health and habits. Only 3 years ago did I even have a general practitioner and have blood work done. From that blood work, I got a snapshot of my health and wake up call. I needed to get control of my health if I wanted to enjoy my golden years. Midlife is a great time to do a “midlife checklist” on all the medical screenings to see where you are at and set goals to where you want to be.
When It Comes To Eating Healthy, What Is Your #1 Snack Or Meal?
Breakfast! I am a breakfast eater. Snacking is not important to me and I really do not have snacks. I could not without dinner all together especially in the summer when it is so hot. But I have to have breakfast. My breakfast consists of eggs with cheese/healthy fat such as avocado, and protein- either turkey bacon or sausage. I use to include fruit but now that I am on a sugar detox, that is a no-no.
What Advice Would You Give Women Who Feel Trap In Bad Health Habits And Maybe Feel Hopeless?
Keep a “food and feelings” journal. So many of our bad health habits can be contributed to stress, poor planning, busy lifestyles. I found that mine was directly related to my addiction to sugar. Until I got my sugar addiction under control, any diet or health program was bound to fail. I realized how much I reach for something sweet when I keep a journal for 2 weeks.
What Are Your 3 Tips For Staying Focused And Seeing Your Health Goals Through?
First, make goals and set a plan with realistic expectations and deadlines. Next focus on one thing, for me that was my sugar addiction. If I could get control of sugar, I could get control of my weight, exercise, lower cholesterol. Finally, find support from family & friends.
What are 3 Bucket List Items You Want To Include In Your Life Story?
My husband is retiring at the end of the year and I am ready to travel as a couple. Next, I am waiting on grandchildren….. Finally, I would like to write a book on our family history so that the “next generation” knows some of the stories, and they are some good ones.

My 21 Day Sugar Detox series has been an eye-opener to how sugar is affecting my weight gain, loss of sleep, and even stress levels. I always knew I was a stress eater, but learning that the “sugar fix” I have come to know and love is causing greater stress and inflammation in my body was a pivotal moment. I am creating my problems and only I can be the solution.
