Hello, Darlings!

Trying to decide what to wear to a wedding is always hard.  I have been collecting a few dresses to have in my closet for such occasions.  With the busy wedding season in full swing, along with many other events, I need to have a game plan.  For this week’s wedding, I chose a little black dress that is one shoulder with a ruffle.  This dress is from my “go to” designer, Ralph Lauren, in his Lauren Ralph Lauren Collection.  I bought this dress last year on sale, knowing I was going to have tons of events this year.  The dress is a jersey material that hugs but is not too clingy.

The dress material is slightly thicker to help hide the lumps and bumps, but not too thick that it is heavy.  I still chose to wear my Spanx to help create a slimmer tummy (feeling fat this week- too many dinners out). This dress you can dress up with rhinestone jewelry or wear it simple with no necklace at all.  The ruffle detail helps bring attention up.

I added this great new piece from Baublebar, the Laree Lucite Statement Necklace. I wanted something that was a statement but not rhinestone.  This piece is a fun necklace I look forward to wearing many times. I wasn’t really sure how “formal” this wedding reception was.  The wedding reception was poolside at a country club and this was perfect. I saw a little bit of everything.  A nice rule of thumb is it is better to be a wee bit overdresses, then underdresses.  I had thought about adding a shawl to this outfit, but glad I did not, it was a rather warm and sticky evening.

Here is a closer look at the necklace.  As many of you know, I have been buying accessories, necklaces, bracelets, scarves, this year to UP my wardrobe game. I may consider removing the 4th smaller stand as 4 strands is a bit much on my petite frame, but I LOVE the clear Lucite beads.  Lots of possibilities for many outfits.

The necklace gave the outfit a wee bit of sass, which I like. I added the matching earrings, Liva Lucite Drop Earrings, to complete the look. The earring look heavy, but because of the lucite material, they are lightweight.

To finish off the look, I chose my Stuart Weitzman Realdeal Platform black patent leather heels. These shoes are sold out, but I thoroughly recommend block heels for outdoor events. Because I am so short, I really could not get away with wearing anything but heels.  Now, I made sure my feet could handle a night of mixing and mingling by spraying my feet with Preheels to help prevent blisters.  The last thing I need is to have blisters.

I have added some snapshots I took at the wedding this weekend.  Gorgeous flowers!!  The wedding cake tasted incredible, moist and delicious.  Another wedding this weekend then a break, then my son’s wedding.

  1. I love your dress. I looked everywhere last year for a dress just like yours to wear to a wedding. I found one similar in a cotton fabric which it worked very well. I did wear lower heeled shoes but I am a little taller than you. Love the necklace also.

  2. Bwahaha! I almost snorted Diet Coke through my nose about your menopause comment!! I’m with ya, Sister, in the PERI-menopasal stage and it sucks! Yes, wedding season is here and you look gorgeous, my friend! Love the off the shoulder, the ruffle, the necklace, the shoes, just everything. So I’m just asking, it’s okay to wear black to a wedding these days? Congratulations on your own big day coming up! I highlight suggest checking out Lisa Richardson’s blog, Coast to Coast, because she’s not only a dear blog friend of mine, but she just went through the MOG thing just last month! Happy Tuesday!
