Hello, Darlings! What To Wear For Celebration Dinner In Nashville. Last weekend we went to Nashville, Tennessee to celebrate my son, Scott’s graduation from Vanderbilt Law School. We made a reservation at the Bourbon Steak Restaurant on the 34th floor on top of the JW Marriott Hotel. This rooftop restaurant has a 360-degree view of the Nashville skyline. Due to the size of our party, we booked a private room so we were able to enjoy the nighttime skyline view from our room.
This was a celebration dinner and I want to dress up. For many in our party it was the first time they were able to dress up and go out to a restaurant. So for me the question was “What to wear?”

What To Wear For Celebration Dinner?- Reach For The LBD (Little Black Dress)
Everyone needs an LBD cocktail dress that they can dress up with accessories and jewelry. My favorite LBD ( I have several) for cocktail/dressy occasions is from Lauren Ralph Lauren. This is the same dress I wore for Scott’s rehearsal dinner about 3 years ago (check out that post here). Made from a thick jersey/elastane material it molds to the body shape but also hides the lumps and bumps.
I still wore my Wacoal Red Carpet Strapless bra and my Spanx Higher Power Panties to give me a better shape. Even though I have lost weight, I am still not down to the weight I was when I originally bought this dress. Lucky for me, this dress has the stretch.
What To Wear For Celebration Dinner?- Add A Stole Wrap For a POP of Color
This dress has a FABULOUS neckline but I wanted to add a bit of color so I chose to wear my new Kettlewell Colours Cashmere Gauze Stole in Jewel Lobelia. I wore the stole as a wrap for the evening and it was a good choice as the weather turned cooler and I was able to wrap it around my shoulders for warmth while riding home from the restaurant.
Because the neckline was the star, I only wore simple diamond necklace, my large rhinestone earrings, and my multi-strand silver beaded bracelet to give it a “modern” look. I also dug deep into my closet and pulled out my Stuart Weitzman black leather platform heels.
Dining Out In The Sky
The view from the outdoor bar area at the top of the JW Marriott Hotel in Nashville was incredible. We had hoped to watch the sunset, but the weather was not cooperating. Did not matter anyway, the skyline view was amazing and Ashley, who works for the Nashville Chamber Of Commerce, was pointing out all the sights including all the new development in Nashville.

Family Pictures At Sunset
We were not the only ones trying to get pictures. It was a zoo, everyone trying to jockey for their space along the rail. After some scoping, we were able to muscle our way thru and grab a spot along the window to get some family/group photos.
Private Dining Room With A View
We dined in a private dining room that was a part of the Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina, A Nashville Steakhouse. The menu was a combination of steak, seafood, and sides. My daughter-in-law Ashley is studying for her sommelier certification so we let her pick out our wines. Our white was a Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2019 from France. Very light with not acid taste, perfect with seafood. The red was the Massa Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from California. I loved the red, it was light, fruity with no after taste. Unfortunately, we drank their last bottle and needed another red for the table so Ashley chose the Amorio Malbec 2017 from Argentina. It was a nice red, just not as good as the first one.
After an incredible dinner of steak and seafood, I had steak and scallops, we enjoyed desserts with a creme brulee and smores brownie passed around the table. I felt I had to roll myself into bed. So much great food and wine, not a Keto night at all.
It was well worth it because we were celebrating not only Scott’s graduation, but he was graduation #1 in his class with the highest GPA from Vanderbilt Law School.
