Today I want to share my favorite purchases this summer. Summer is waning but here in the south, we have another month (or two ) of warm weather to enjoy. I plan to fully take advantage of this time to rest, relax, and play.

This year with COVID more emphasis is placed on Staycation and Shelter In Place. That does not mean I can’t enjoy this time to its fullest. Here are some of the great finds this summer.
Summer Favorite #1- Pandora Yacht Rock Radio
Not really a purchase because it is free. Loving the blast from the past favorites from the ’70s & ’80s, Pandora’s Yacht Rock Radio is now my favorite station. Whether it is floating about in the lake or lounging in the pool at home or at the beach, listening to music is relaxing. How about in the evening sitting by the fire pit with a nice glass of wine. Other stations I like are Ed Sheeran Radio, and James Taylor Radio, Carolina Beach Music, and Fleetwood Mac Radio. Pandora Radio is a free app for your phone. You can broadcast it over your phone or Bluetooth speaker.
Summer Favorite # 2- Megaboom Waterproof Bluetooth Portable Speaker
We have 3 of the Megaboom Waterproof Bluetooth Portable Speakers, for home, lake, and the beach. You charge it up and moved it to any area you want to broadcast music, from your phone or apps such as Pandora and Spotify. You don’t have to worry about it getting wet from splashes by the pool. Easy to work, you download the Megaboom app to your phone where you can turn on, adjust the sound, turn off the speaker without ever leaving your float.
Summer #3 – Frontgate Lana Floating Seat
Currently sold out ( I am waiting for one I ordered a month ago). Made with marine grade Sunbrella fabric and filled with mold/mildew resistant foam bead, this float is the BEST float around. Not cheap, I ordered 4 for beach and 4 for the house. Everyone fights over it because it is perfect for adults and super comfortable. The one draw back is no cup holders. This is so popular, maybe next year they will add them. I got mine on 30% off sale.
Summer Favorite #4 Big Joe Waterpad Party Float
I am going, to be honest with you, we bought the Big Joe Float Pad for the dogs. It is the perfect way for the dogs to hang out with us in the lake. We saw these pop up late last year all over the lake. Perfect for adults to lounge together and grandchildren to play. It is easy to attach to the dock with a rope and rolled up, fastened with velcro, and stored on the dock. Not really for pool use. It is big- 15′ X 6′ and easily holds 4 adults plus a gaggle of dogs and kids.
Summer Favorite #5 Thermacell Patio Shield Mosquito Repellant
Whether it is at home, lake, or beach mosquitos are a problem to enjoying one of my favorite times of the day, sunset. The Thermacell Patio Shield is a small portable device that provides a 15-Foot area of protection – perfect for entertaining on lawn, porch, patio, pool or deck. According to their website, proven technology used to fight mosquitoes in toughest spots on earth; provides 12 hours of protection. My review- it seems to work! I hate spraying down with chemicals so this is an easy stylish answer. It comes in 6 different colors. I have the glacier blue at the beach and home, for the lake graphite.
It comes with beginning supplies to get you started. You will want to read the instructions thoroughly before you start. Additional repellent mats and fuel cartridges are easily ordered on Amazon.
Summer Favorite #6 28 Summers By Elin Hilderbrand
Almost all her books are set on the island of Nantucket, Elin Hilderbrand’s newest one 28 Summers
#7 Book Series For Lazy Summer Days- Sharon Sala’s Jigsaw Files Series
Light suspense and perfect to summer read (easy read) Sharon Sala’s Jigsaw Files has been a huge hit. This is a series you will want to read in order.
Although the series ends on a good note, it looks like Sharon Sala is going to give us one more book in this series, scheduled to debut in February 2021.
Summer Favorite #8- FABULOUS Zebra Swim Coverup
After gaining an extra 20lbs during COVID lockdown, fashion has not been on my radar. I have only worn about 4 outfits over and over again. I keep reaching for my black bathing suit (black is slimming). But even in an “all-black mood”, I can’t help throwing in some FABULOUS.
I saw this black/white zebra swim cover-up from White House Black Market and had to have it. It became an instant favorite.
# 9 Summer Favorite- Opal Ice Machine
Who does like the little “rabbit pellet ice”? At the end of the last year, I splurged and purchased the Opal Ice Machine on sale. This ice machine runs like a Keurig, you put water in the reservoir and it makes ice. The drawback is you have to constantly fill the reservoir, but the ice it makes is worth the hassle.
Ours sits on the counter top ( both lake and beach house) just waiting to be used in a summer cocktail or large glass of tea. To make sure it runs properly, you do need to run the clean cycle occasionally. Some of the reviews on Amazon have been mixed, but both of ours works like a champ. It is pretty expensive, but look for it to go on sale.
Summer Favorite #10 – New Morning Mercies- A Daily Devotion
The stress of COVID and all the negativity has me reaching for the gospel. A dear friend of mine recommended this devotion book, New Morning Mercies- A Daily Devotion. It’s a book that is meant to remind you that you can’t help yourself. This book reminds you to place your trust in the one who can change you and draw you deeper into His loving kindness.
It has fabulous reviews on Amazon. Each page is dated, but you can start anywhere or start on the date you received it. This book is a great gift to someone who might need comfort and encouragement.
As We Go Into Fall
With Labor Day right around the corner, I am trying to plan activites that allow for social distancing. Big travel plans are out, but taking advantage of this time and exploring your community is in. We are planning to check out some hiking and biking trails near our home. Also, we are picking up a new sport- Pickleball!
