Hello, Darlings!
Holiday parties are OVER and it is Time For A Sugar Detox. If you are feeling fat, bloated, or just plain irritable, it might be time to re-evaluate your diets. Many like myself know that they have a problem with sugar- a true sugar addiction. This is a problem I will always be battling. I will have some wins and some losses in my battle with sugar. But the goal is to get control and the first step is to detox.

I Wish I Could Go To A Fancy Spa For My Detox

Don’t you wish we are all super-rich and could go to a spa for the month where they would only feed us healthy food and we would get daily walks and spa treatments? Instead, we have to pamper ourselves.
No diet is fun, but if we think about it in the same way as a super luxurious spa them maybe we can have some fun with it.
Start With A Plan- Preparation Is Key

Throw away IMMEDIATELY all those gifts that people, companies and neighbors gave you that are full of sugar. Think of them as POISON!!!
If your husband or family member just HAS to have their sweet treat, make them put it in a container with a lid. (you will thank me later). I actually make my husband put it in his closet. Out of sight and out of mind.
Let’s Go To The Grocery Store

Do this on a full stomach or it will be a total failure. You will find a list of items for your detox and other recommendations in my post Preparing For 21 Day Sugar Detox. If you just want to do the 7 Day Sugar Detox- Get my 7 Day Detox Challenge.
Get Some Fresh Air

If you need to be distracted from the thoughts of sugary sweets, get out of the house and get some fresh air. Detoxing does a number on our bodies so take some time and just BREATHE. Walk around the park or neighborhood, or even a small hike will help you relax and think about other things.
Pamper, Pamper, Pamper

If your budget will allow, treat yourself to a wellness massage. I asked for spa treatments for Christmas so I am ready to book my Hot Stone Massage.

Not in the budget? Take a nice relaxing bath, add a little aromatherapy and face mask. Light a candle, turn on some music, and grab a large glass of water and just- RELAX.
HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE

I can’t tell you enough to hydrate. Your body is going to be releasing a ton of toxins and you need to be able to flush them out of your system.

There are lots of recipes for infused water on Pinterest. Just remember to avoid ones with sugar!. Keep it simple and stored in your refrigerator for a quick and easy “spa-like” treat.
Detoxing is NOT fun
Okay, I have tried to create the illusion that detoxing is fun. Your body is trying to remove toxins and it is going to make you feel like CRAP for a couple of days. Sugar Addiction is real! You might experience cravings, headaches, nausea, bathroom problems. Both mostly feeling tired and irritable. The first stage of detoxing takes about a week- BE STRONG. Know you are working to a healthier you!

How Did Day Sugar Detox- Day 1 Go?
We for me it did not start off great because I started the day with a sinus headache. That headache lasted ALL DAY. But the good news is that I did not turn to sugar for help. I stuck to the plan. I did add an extra “good carbohydrate” to my day’s plan. If you are feeling bad, adding an extra carb can help the first few days. Remember, many carbs have lots of sugar so be choosy.

Getting rid of sugar is the most important step to wellness. Great post on explaining the best way to do it.
Getting rid of sugar is HARD. But it is worth it to get control of your life back. Today was a good day. Day #2 of sugar detox =success
Regan, I had to smile when I saw those tips. They are so doable and the spa sounds good but you are right it’s all about self-care. Thanks.
Yes it is about self-care! Just got finished taking a nice stroll around the neighborhood. Enjoying this beautiful day. Drinking my water like a champ!
Thanks for these tips. Need to go back and read all your sugar detox posts. So hard, but so worth it!
