Formula For Beautiful Thanksgiving Tablescape
First Let’s Measure
Start With A Tablecloth
If you need to protect your table, start with a tablecloth. Not only does it provide protection, but it also adds color. If you have a natural-looking wood table that does not need protecting, you might consider leaving it natural and letting the wood.
Don’t pick a tablecloth made out of a material that you will have to spend hours ironing, nobody has time for that.
Let’s bring the beauty of fall into our homes through natural elements and fall colors. Look for a table cloth in oranges, rust, browns, tan, or even green. If you want to add a pattern, a fall plaid will make a gorgeous tablescape.
Add A Runner
I love adding a runner to my table. It serves not only as an element of layering and texture but also as a place to have fun with table decorations. Your table runner can be a color or even a texture such as burlap, jute, or linen.
If you are not using a tablecloth, a runner helps create interest in a table setting.
Placemats Or No Placemats
This is a personal preference just like tablecloths. I am not a huge placemat because they are so big and occupy so much of the table. Instead, I like to add chargers to a table to define the place setting.
Now, if you like placemats, there are so many options to chose from. I love the placemats that are round that define the space but are not too big. Seeing lots of placemats in jute, burlap, and natural elements.
How To Set A Table Properly
As a child, I was assigned the task of setting the table. I always seem to need a refresher course on where everything went. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to pull out your wedding silver and china and show it off.
Napkins And Napkin Rings
If you are setting a formal table, you will want to use cloth napkins. So many great color choices out there for your table beside white. Also, you can find fun and interesting napkin rings that add an additional layer of interest to your table.
Create A Centerpiece
Bring In The Beauty And Bounty Of Nature
Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate the bounty of nature. Beautiful color displays of leaves, gourds, pumpkins, seasonal flowers can all be combined to create a gorgeous centerpiece.
Styling a table has moved away from the traditional flowers in a vase to more of a runner type arrangement. This keeps the heights down lower so people can converse during dinner
Bring in wood elements from nature such as sticks, twigs, vines, and pinecones.
Try non-traditional colors for your tablescape. Softer hues with greenery such as eucalyptus and white/light green pumpkins create a softer look to your Thanksgiving table.
For a touch of elegance, go gold. Spray paint pumpkins, pinecones with gold spray paint. Look for floral pics with gold color berries.
Add interesting and unique collectibles to your tablescape such as this turkey. Also added to this table are interesting colored corn and nuts.
For a buffet table, use a carved out pumpkin as a vase for fresh or faux flowers. I have used ones from Michaels and fill it with interesting greenery, flowers, berries, and cattails.
How To Create A Picture Perfect Thanksgiving Table-Add Lighting
Lighting is such an important element for a Thanksgiving table. Even if your meal is held during the day, lighting such as candles creates a mood that says “this is a special event”. Use candles at multiple heights. I love the thick, chunky candles under glass domes.
Make Sure You Table Is Family Friendly
A too-tall centerpiece can block family members from being able to see and converse at the table. Scented candles can mix with the scents from the food and make people nauseous. If you have little ones at the table, consider flameless candles. These are especially good if you have a buffet table. You can fill the dome with nuts and fruit to add an extra element.
There are great options for flameless candles you can use also. I love adding the flameless candles to the mantle in my home along with additional natural elements to my home for fall decor.
Create A Personal Touch
Create a personal touch with your Thanksgiving tablescape by having individual place setting cards. Many families have a traditional “what I am thankful for ” time.

Don’t forget the kids. Make a kid-friendly table with paper or plastic plates, and glasses. A tablecloth that they can color helps to keep them occupied while the adults enjoy their meal.
