With the changing of the seasons, now is the perfect time to do a wardrobe check. I am starting a series on building a wardrobe starting with the basics you need to put together FABULOUS outfits without panicking, having to run to the store, grabbing the first thing you find in order to “just make it work”.
A couple of years ago I did a closet organization and decluttering project. This project opened my eyes to the fact I had way too many clothes in my closet that I did not wear but bought on impulse because they were a “great price”. How many of you have said this phrase, ” I have a closet full of clothes and NOTHING to wear”?

For the next week or two, I am going to be writing about the basics you need to have in your wardrobe. Now is a great time to grab these pieces before the parties/activities of the holidays. Also if there are items you need, you can add them to your Christmas List. A new handbag????

What Is A Capsule Wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don’t go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal pieces. By having the basics in your capsule wardrobe, you can add pieces such as scarves, sweaters, shirts, and jackets in seasonal colors and trends to create easy fun outfits.
A basic seasonal capsule wardrobe will have around 30-50 pieces that can be interchanged to make multi outfits for many occasions. Because I live in the south and our seasons are interchangeable, my personal wardrobe consists of more transitional pieces and less winter clothing.
Ultimate Goal- A Wardrobe You LOVE
The ultimate goal is to have a closet full of clothes that fit correctly, are the correct size, that you can choose from to make outfits for many occasions. The pieces you choose for your wardrobe will depend on your lifestyle. If you work, especially in an office setting you will need different pieces that someone who works from home or is retired.
But first, let’s start with the basics……………
What is on my shopping list? I need new black flats (Gracie destroyed them) new black purse (looking really tired and worn out), Luggage (need to make sure my old carry on meets airline rules.
