What To Wear To Wedding In The Fall-Women Over 50

Hello, Darlings!

Many couples are taking advantage of the cooler weather and having fall weddings. Today we are talking about what to wear to a wedding in the fall. If you are the MOG/MOB or just a wedding guest, here is some inspiration to help you plan for the event. Many couples are choosing non-traditional/outside venues which makes outfit planning a little more difficult but not impossible.

What To Wear When You Are The Mother Of The Bride Or Mother Of The Groom

What I Wore As Mother Of The Groom In The Fall

My son got married 2 years ago on September 30th. It was an outdoor wedding in the evening so I chose a dark navy off the shoulder dress with slight beading. I wore no necklace because the neckline was the star of the show. Crystal drop earrings and a simple rhinestone bracelet complete the outfit. It was a gorgeous evening and I felt FABULOUS.

Mother Of Bride/ Mother Of Groom Fall Wedding

The Mother Of The Bride wore this gorgeous white Eliza J dress with gold damask floral print. This dress was the perfect dress for a MOB and she looked incredible in it. The neckline was beaded and she completed the look with rhinestone-studded earrings and bracelet.

What To Wear To An Evening Wedding In The Fall

Navy Lauren Dress With Stuart Weiztman Block Heel Shoes

I have worn this dress on several occasions. A navy Lauren Ralph Lauren off the shoulder dress in a stretch jersey material. Several of the receptions have been held in outdoor tents with flooring that was not level. Block heels are a must. I also have a collection of clutch purses that I can take to weddings to put cell phone, lipstick, and tissues.

All black for wedding in the fall

Who says you can not wear black to a wedding? Of course, you can, I wore this cold shoulder Lauren Ralph Lauren dress to several weddings and wedding rehearsal dinners. All black is sleek and stylish, easily dressed up with a statement necklace. Here I went tone on tone with a black dress and a black statement necklace from Kendra Scott.

What To Wear To Rehearsal Dinner In Fall

As the official hosts of the rehearsal dinner, you want to look FABULOUS and feel great because the evening will be full of meeting, greet, and celebrating. I choose to go all black with this halter style off-shoulder black dress from Lauren Ralph Lauren. I paired it with a simple diamond necklace, rhinestone earrings/bracelet. Most important were my block heel shoes that I had already broken in.

Black dress with velvet burnout topper for rehearsal dinner

Knowing that the revenue was inside I added this velvet burnout topper from Target. It was a perfect addition to the outfit not only for function but for style too

Mother of the Groom Rehearsal Dinner Outfit

Another son, another rehearsal dinner as hostess. Here I went with all black again and blinged it up. Rhinestone necklace, rhinestone bracelet, and rhinestone earrings bring this dress up to the festive level. I was recently asked about the whole “pantyhose thing”. If I wore this dress in the late fall or winter when it was much colder, I would choose to wear sheer black pantyhose. Not only would that help to create a column of color making me look taller and slimmer, but it would also help me be less subconscious of my legs. If you are subconscious choose sheer nude or black pantyhose and make sure you get them ahead of time because many stores are only stocking a very few.

What To Wear To Wedding In A More Casual Outdoor Setting

Velvet Burnout Ruana is a good option for casual wedding guest

More and more weddings are being held in non-traditional venues. I have been to a wedding in a field, in a barn, in a barn with horses, on the beach, in an outdoor tent, you name it. This may cause some distress on what to wear. Don’t be afraid to pull out the pants and flat shoes. Here I wore velvet (or fake velvet) pants and top and topped it off with a gorgeous velvet burnout kimono. Adding rhinestone necklace and bracelet continued to “level it up” to festive. My shoes were simple ballet style flats.

Black maxi dress and statement necklace for outdoor wedding

I wore a black cold shoulder maxi dress to a wedding in early October and it was still hot and outside. The wedding was a more “casual affair” so I chose to add this stunning turquoise necklace instead of the rhinestone. For shoes, I opted for a flat because the venue was outside and a little difficult to get to. When planning your wardrobe think- venue, weather, and shoes! Nothing is more unpleasant than for your feet to hurt the entire evening or even worse, you roll your ankle.

Black Velvet with Black Ruana

Many people do not feel comfortable wearing dresses anymore. Unless the invitation says formal, I say pants will do just fine if you dress it up. This is easy to do with rhinestone necklace, earrings, bracelet, and a shiny clutch bag. This was velvet pants and top from Chico’s Traveler’s Collection which provides a great base layer for this stunning black velvet burnout jacket from Target. You could easily achieve the same look with a black top and pants. Ballet flats in black were the shoes of choice because this venue was an outdoor tent and the weather had just turned quite cool in late November.

Styling Halter Neck Jumpsuit For Fall Wedding Guest Outfit

I have seen so many great jumpsuits styled amazingly at weddings recently. It is such a great option for the less traditional wedding venues or even a rehearsal dinner. Level it up with shiny accessories and block heel shoes for a festive outfit you will feel great in. If the weather all a sudden turns colder, just add a velvet jacket or even a wrap.

Plan Ahead Of Time To Avoid Wardrobe Panic

I have a box in my closet, especially for event wardrobe must-haves. Inside it has several beaded purses (that I inherited from my grandmother) a couple of wraps (some sheer/some not) and a collection of statement necklaces/bracelets/black pantyhose that would only be worn for special occasions such as weddings or formal affairs. This way a simple black dress, jumpsuit, or pants/top combo can easily be turned into an event worthy outfit at a moment. I have it all in one place, ready to pull out when the invite comes.

Preparing ahead of time is key to being ready for these affairs. Nothing is worse than having to run out last minute and get an outfit because the weather has changed. Start now building your event box with items you already have and adding just a few key pieces (toppers/shawl/wraps/) to be ready for the next wedding. Everyone needs to have black flat shoes and black block heels that will go with almost any outfit. Put your money into a FABULOUS black dress that you love and you can dress up and down, and a couple of pairs of black pants or jumpsuit.
