What Happens When You Add Sugar Back After 21 Day Sugar Detox

Today we are going to talk about what happens when you add back sugar after a 21-day sugar detox.

I spent last week at the beach after my 21 Day Sugar Detox. Officially I was “off the detox” so I could eat whatever I wanted. I decided to test the waters so to speak and see what would happen if I ate sugar again.

It was my daughter’s birthday and we had an ice cream birthday cake. I love ice cream and just could not resist. So what happened, nothing, it tasted incredible. But… I wanted more of it. So the cravings began.

Everything Taste “Super Sweet”

Chose a dry or red wine after 21 Day Sugar Detox.  Less sweet tasting.
Avoid sweet wines- choose dry white or red

You know how I love my wine, so I had planned to add back my 5’oclock Friday wine night. The first sip and … YUCK, it was so sweet. I changed to a drier white wine and it was much better. I was so surprised by my reaction.

Cookies And More Cravings

Cookies are just too tempting. After eating just one the sugar cravings came back.

Now my sub-conscience is nagging at me that it is “okay to have sugar this week”. So I had hot out of the oven gooey chocolate chip cookies. But you can’t just eat one. The next thing I know I have eaten 4 and two hours later wanted another one.

Headaches Are Back

Sugar headaches came back after the sugar detox.

What I was really surprised were the headaches. It was like withdrawal symptoms all over again. My body was revolting against sugar. On top of that, I started having “bathroom problems” again.

It Is Just Not Worth It!

After working so hard and detoxing my body of sugar, those cookies are just not worth how bad I felt. I am ready to go another round of the 21 Days Of Sugar Detox.

This Time I Are Concentrating On Making This A Lifestyle Change

I officially started back this week, continuing to chose my meals from the YES list in the 21 Day Sugar Detox program. This round will be dedicated to making this a lifestyle. I will need to incorporate eating out and grab and go food. Adding back exercise will be important too as I need to lose weight. Not rewarding exercise with sugar will be another hurdle I will have to jump.

I have created a 7-Day Sugar Detox Challenge to help you see if you are ready to make the step to clean eating. To adapt to this new lifestyle is as much mental as it is physical.   1. Interesting what happened. I guess that makes sense! Good for you! When I notice I am craving too much sugar I typically will do a three day cleanse and gets rid of the bloat and the cravings for me. As soon as that stops working might have to jump on this detox train. Good work!

    1. What the week at the beach taught me was that I need to make this a lifestyle without sugar. If not, I am back on the train of cravings and emotional sugar fixes. On my website, I have a free 7-day sugar detox challenge but to truly release yourself from sugar addiction you need to do at least 21 days. I am on my second 21-day sugar detox and have ZERO cravings, sleeping great and losing weight (slowly). So far I have pasted the stress test (not shoveling sugar in my mouth during stressful situation).

  2. Wow! Your results are so interesting! I think mine would be the same. Once I start down that slope it is a slippery one! I am thinking about doing the 7 day detox… a few weak spots for me would be popcorn, no artificial sweeteners, crackers. Is hummus ok?

    1. To take sugar out of your life, you have to have a hard look at yourself and decide if you are ready. You may not be. I discovered that if I wanted to lose weight I was going to have to make the hard decision to give it up and break the cycle of my sugar addiction.
