Preparation is the key to success. The first week can be hard and you might now feel great so having food on hand and ready to go will make all the difference
Purchase 21 Day Sugar Detox Daily Guide
I like the paperback book so I can mark and make notes in it. It also serves as a guide and journal which I encourage you to use the “Notes About Today” section to write how you are feeling that day. Looking back it is quite enlightening. You can purchase it on Amazon with prime shipping
The book has several good recipes but for the most part, I chose my own menu. During part 2 of the 21 Day Sugar Detox challenge I am going to ask some of my fellow bloggers to contribute their favorite recipes and meal plans that are sugar-free for you to try.
Shopping List For 21 Day Sugar Detox
Page 20 in the 21 Day Sugar Detox Daily Guide give you a list of Official Yes/No Foods.
- Coffee creamer Almond Milk/Coconut Milk NO SUGAR!!!! Read the label!!!
- Lemons/ Limes
- Lemon Juice
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Bottles of vinegar such as apple cider/ balsamic/ red wine
- Real Butter
- Sour Cream (not fat-free)
- Nuts & Seeds for garnish and for a snack
- Unsweetened tea
- Sparkling Water such as La Croix (no sugar)
- Spices/Sea Salt/Herbs (watch for added sugars in herb mixtures)
- Garlic & onions
- Hard cheeses – parmesan, cheddar
- Salad ( I like the mixture of baby greens)
- Fresh vegetables -zucchini/squash/green beans/tomatoes/asparagus (full list on pg 20 in book)
- Carrot in bag slices in “chip style”
- *** You can have 1/2 cup of rice or quinoa a day
- Green apples
- Caffeine Free Hot Herbal Teas
- Eggs/Egg Beater
- Deli meats and bacon (no sugar – such as maple/brown sugar-flavored)
Vitamins And Supplements
I am not a huge “pill popper” and don’t believe in taking a bunch of vitamins and supplement you don’t really need. Good news is that you are going to eat tons of great fresh food that has so many nutrients in them. If you have recently done blood work and your doctor has recommended certain supplements than I encourage you to get them in the highest quality you can find. Many of the store brand vitamins come from China and other countries that do not have good quality standards. Be very choosey.
My Recommended Vitamins/Supplements
If you are going totally “fruit free” as I did, I recommend you take a Vitamin C supplement. Also, many of us are low in B12- here is the Vitamin B12 that I take, sublingually. If you do not consume or like fish such as salmon, I recommend you add Omega 3 Fish Oil.
During the first week, the withdrawal phase, it is nice to be able to take a hot bath and relax or treat yourself to a mug of herbal tea. You can find other ways to help with sleep here.
This Is REAL Important
Unless you live alone, your family/husband did not ask to be on the 21 Sugar Detox. You need to plan for them too. What I did to satisfy my husband and allow me to be faithful to the sugar detox without making 2 meals, is to add starches to their food choices. I bought single wrapped baking potatoes and offered larger portions and extra rice to make them happy. Good news is my husband lost weight during the detox period too. He felt better and enjoyed home-cooked meals instead of grab and go.

My daughter did the 21 Day Sugar Detox with me and it was a huge help having her go thru the journey by my side. I was able to text her when I was going through the withdrawal period, we encouraged each other, and compared experiences. And in the end, we were able to celebrate our daily victories such as beating temptations and cravings.
