What I Wore To Bridal Tea- Mother of the Groom

Hello, Darlings!

Wedding Season is in full swing.  For me, that means  Sunday afternoons are dedicated to Bridal Teas, and this year I have the honor of being the Mother of the Groom.  My sweet friends graciously offered to host a Bridal Tea for my soon to be daughter in law, Emily.

What Is A Bridal Tea?

For those not from the South, a Bridal Tea is like a reception.  They are held on Sunday afternoons and are come and go events. Basically, it is an opportunity for family and friends to come by, drop off wedding gift, and meet your bride.  Usually held in someone’s home or church hall, there are light refreshments with punch and water served.  Gifts are unwrapped by the hostesses and displayed for all to see.  The bride’s job is to meet and greet.  As the Mother of the Groom, my job is to greet all guest at the door and introduce my soon to be daughter in law.

What To Wear To A Bridal Tea?

The bride wears a dress in white to stand out and say, “I am the Bride”. The Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom wear their best church dress.  Guest usually wear what they wore to church, but because it is a come and go event, many guests wear what they have on for the afternoon, especially if they have other events that day.

As the Mother of the Groom, I want to look special for all the pictures.  This year I chose a graphic floral print from Chiara Boni La Petie Robe. Chiara Boni Dress are high-end dresses made from nylon/spandex which accentuates your curves.  This dress is no longer available as I scooped it up on a clearance sale.  Chiara Boni La Petite Robe dresses are FABULOUS for Mother of the Bride, or Groom.

This dress was off the shoulder, which draws attention up and away from my hips.  If I wanted to look slimmer, I would have chosen this dress in a darker color.  But I wanted to be bold and bright! The dress was totally me and I felt special the entire time.

Because you are on your feet for at least 2 hours, you need to have shoes that are comfortable. This dress was not a flat appropriate dress, so I chose to wear a block heel in a nude color.  Nude shoes are a MUST to have in your shoe wardrobe.  They make you look taller, and work with many light color dresses.

These shoes are Stuart Weitzman Real deals in nude.  These are no longer available, luckily I was able to nap these at the end of the last year at a clearance price.  Nude block heels are all the rage right now.

For accessories, I chose drop earrings to again, bring attention up, and a simple pearl bracelet.

My daughter has been a great encourager for me in my wardrobe struggles.  She has great style and chose to wear a high-low floral dress with a nude wedge shoe and drop fringe earrings that pulled out the coral color in her dress.

  1. I love all of the dresses. Pink is definitely your color. I think this is the first wedding season in years that I don’t have a wedding or two to attend.
