I am so over winter. For some parts of the country, winter is still rearing its ugly head. But I am ready for Spring Break. After working hard on my Spring Cleaning, I am ready for a break. So, I am sneaking off to the beach next week for some much need R & R. Spring Break is always a tease for summer. So, as I am evaluating my wardrobe for summer needs, I came across some “hidden” gems in my closet
Spring Break Must Have #1- Bright Colorful Top
With the dreary winter almost over, it is time to pull out those bright colorful tops. This one was hidden in my closet, it is from Lily Pulitzer. The poncho style is perfect since I am still losing weight from winter hibernation. Plus, I just love ponchos! The colors are an array of spring hues, just in time to make you think of Easter. I LOVE Lily Pulitzer! I am hoping to see more pieces in the collection that will work with my body type. Did you know they just launch a collection of home accessories and bedding with Pottery Barn?
I have styled this top with some hot pink drop style earrings from Pink Lily Boutique. No need for a necklace as the top is the showpiece.
Spring Break Must Have #2- White Jeans
Rules for white pants are thrown out the window. We have been seeing white jeans throughout the winter. Now, with spring here, it is time to pull them out.
To be honest, I have had trouble with white jeans. It has been hard to find a pair that is not see thru or so thick they are uncomfortable. Plus, for me here in the south, white jeans don’t have much longevity as it gets hot here very quickly. I am gone for white capri jeans. These capri jeans are the Marilyn Straight Crop Cuff from NYDJ. They are a perfect weight, not too heavy, have lots of stretch, and a higher rise. Great thing about NYDJ is that they have different options for different body types and now have their Curves 360 collection. Oh,did I mention, free shipping and free returns.
For styling purposes, white jeans/capri are not flattering to my body type. But, my top is bright and bold, the attention is drawn up and away from my hips. I love them because they are comfortable, clean and fresh looking. They also help show off my new sandals which brings us to the next must-have.
Spring Break Must Have #3- Espadrille Platform/Flatform Shoes
Espadrille FlatForms are the new trend this spring/summer and I am LOVING them. These are from Nordstrom by Marc Fisher. I loved them so much I bought them in white too. These shoes do not have a large arch so they are comfortable to wear. The heel is a 2 1/2 inch platform style which at 5’1 gives me much needed height without discomfort. They are a little heavy and clomp a bit, not for all day walking, but perfect for lunch out with friends. Sole Society has some with a smaller heel. Look for many brands to have this style for the summer.
Spring Break Must-Have #4- Straw Hat
The beach hat was the “It” accessory to have last year. Hats were everywhere, not just for style but for sun protection. The only difference is that you are seeing the hat not just for the beach, but in everyday style. I have two straw hats, one a fedora style (from Lily Pulitzer), and the other a floppy style. This floppy hat the Packable Hat from J. Crew is bendable and perfect for packing for vacation.
Spring Break Must- Have #5- Sunglasses
Invest in a pair of quality, stylish sunglasses. Sunglasses are your workhorse for summer. Style, comfort, fashion, and sun protection are the keys. These sunglasses were my birthday gift, they are the Kalena Maui Jims. Maui Jim glasses can be fitted for eye prescription. I choose to wear my contacts and just have the regular lens. The frames are very lightweight with scratch and shatter resistant lens.
