Mother Of The Groom: Rehearsal Dinner

Hello, Darlings!

After looking fabulous at the wedding, the next responsibility of the groom’s family is to host the Rehearsal Dinner.  This can be especially difficult if you live out of town. Word of advice set a budget and research on the internet!  That is exactly what I did and my experience turned out easy and stress-free (for the most part).  I was lucky in the fact that the bride and bride’s mom scoped out a possible location for me.  They chose Copper Grill in Little Rock Arkansas. After I did some research and read reviews I contacted the restaurant and was thrilled to talk to the person who would be overseeing my event.  Allison, at Copper Grill, was incredible. She put me at ease right away telling me they do events like mine weekly, and a large menu to chose from, and perfect space for my needs.  Most of all…. the event room was available!!!  I signed the contract, put a deposit down, and relaxed because I did not have to confirm numbers or menu choice until a week ahead of time.

Check Out Space Ahead Of Time

When I went up for the Bridal Shower I stayed in the hotel we were planning to stay for the wedding and went to the Copper Grill to look at things such as room size, seating, equipment, table decor.  I truly recommend this because after doing so I was prepared with a list I needed to bring for the dinner.  Copper Grill has a lovely room with a modern/rustic feel.  They provide everything I would need.  All I needed to do was provide table decor, and even the Copper Grill had votive candles and glass chargers I could use. I was able to meet with Allison, the event manager face to face which was a great relief.  She went over how they would set up the room and the equipment for the slideshow.  Again, I felt very confident in my choice of venue.

Picking Out The Perfect Outfit

With my job for the Rehearsal dinner being hostess, it required the perfect outfit. The event was dressy casual so I went to my “designer of choice”  Ralph Lauren and his Lauren Collection for the perfect little black dress.  The dress I chose was the Ponte Off The Shoulder Sheath Dress with a halter neckline.  The material was a Ponte type knit that was thick and hugged my body.  Because I was unsure of the weather, I added the A New Day Women’s Paisley Velvet Kimono from Target.  To complete I added earrings and bracelets. Comfortable shoes are a MUST! I chose Stuart Weitzman Real Deal Platform Sandals in Black Suede.

The Little Touches- Room Decorations

I turned to my daughter Anna for ideas for decorations for the room.  Because she is in charge of dozens of events each year at the church, she was able to give me lots of ideas.  I bought several battery- operated lanterns from Walmart.  We placed them on these great Threshold Acacia Serving Platters I got from Target.  Anna pick up some simple black frames from the Dollar Store to make table cards.  The day we left Birmingham, we went to Trader Joe’s and bought eucalyptus greenery and hydrangeas. I transported them in 5-gallon buckets from Home Depot adding a liner paint bucket and filling each with water to keep the greenery fresh

Something “Instagramable”

Let’s get real, it is all about the pictures.  I purchased a chalkboard and Anna used a chalkboard pen set (very important) to create the perfect entrance sign.  Anna added greenery and burlap bow for the finishing touch.

Perfect Evening

We chose to host a simple bar with beer and wine.  The menu option we chose was a buffet of prime rib, chicken, mixed vegetables, and the most incredible white cheddar mash potatoes.  For dessert, warm bread pudding with caramel bourbon sauce.  The evening included a slideshow of the couple and their families and friends playing while everyone was arriving.  After dinner, we had heartwarming, emotional, and several very funny speeches.  The evening ended with a toast to the bride and groom.
