Dressing Up For Birthday Dinner At Bottega

Hello, Darlings!

With busy lives, we have to make time for those who are important to us.  I missed spending time with my sister in laws.  When my sister in law Debbie texted and asked if we were free Saturday night for a birthday dinner for my brother in law John, the answer was YES!  We had plans but we changed them, the family is important and we just don’t get together enough.  Dinner was at a fabulous restaurant in Birmingham called Bottega.

What to wear?  Well, it is fall but it feels like summer so I went back to my old favorite cold shoulder maxi dress from Chicos.  This time in Cobalt blue.  I would have bought this dress in every color made, but wait…. I did!  You know the old saying…. if you love it …. buy it in every color.  I know that mostly applies to shoes, but I have learned styles change so quickly you need to apply it to clothes too.

Birthday Dinner Dress from Chicos

I Just LOVE this dress from Chicos! The fabric is comfortable, flowy, and drapes well.  The cold shoulder allows you to wear a real bra!  Huge, I hate strapless bras with a passion.  I get compliments everytime I wear this dress.  Unfortunately, Chicos did not make this dress this year.  Maxi dresses are perfect to pair with my OTBT pewter wedges.  These are the Bushnell in Pewter.  I can’t believe how much wear I get from them and how comfortable they are.  Plus they make me taller.

Accessorizing A Maxi Dress

Necklace from Chicos

The dress from Chicos is a blank canvas and just screams “statement piece needed”. Well, I answered the call with this gorgeous necklace I got last year from Chicos.  Chicos has great jewelry.  Last year I fell in love with this necklace.  Now, it looks heavy and it is.  But who cares, I love it and wish I had more places to wear it.  Because the necklace is such a statement piece, I went with simple gold hoop earrings.

Matching Bracelet from Chico
I wore the matching bracelet from Chicos. Usually, I avoid matchy accessories but this bracelet helps balance out the statement necklace, plus it is just a fun accessory. I have been working on adding more bracelets to my jewelry collection.  Stacked bracelets are a huge trend this year. This bracelet is one that wraps and coils around your arm giving you the illusion of a multiple strand look.

Adding Darker Lipstick for FallAdding Darker Lipstick from MAC in DivaStepping Up The “Makeup Game”

Summer makeup has been mostly pink neutrals. Many times those colors just wash away on my olive skin. I am “upping” my makeup game for fall and going back to my darker shades in lipsticks and eye makeup. This lip color is called DIVA from MAC and may be my new favorite. My go-to lipsticks are MAC matte finish lipsticks. I used the lip pencil called Soar to compliment the color. Recently I purchased a new eyeshadow palette from MAC called Semi-Sweet Times Nine. Love the colors! I am all in on the eyeshadow palettes. They are perfect for traveling. Nothing is worse than trying to get ready for an event out of town only to realize you forgot your eyeshadows.  Having them in one container makes it so much easier.  Plus it allows you to try different color combinations.

Multi-Functional Simple Bag For Dinner Out

I am not a “purse person”. I have just a couple of basic purse (one black, one brown, one metallic). This year I have added a couple of clutch bags.  This one is called the Triple Pocket Crossbody. You just need a small clutch for your phone, sunglasses, and lipstick! This style is everywhere. This one I bought in several colors in the spring from Lou Lou Boutique. It is actually a multi-functional bag with crossbody strap as well as wristlet strap. I like it when my accessories can do double duty. What I like BEST about this bag is that it is large enough for my cell phone and sunglasses with multiple pockets that zip. Very simple needs but you would be surprised how many clutches cannot fit the larger iPhone and my diva sunglasses! I have seen this same clutch style in an Ostrich print that was super cute.

Nothing beats feeling like you look good when you go out. For so many years I just did not want to go out because I could not find anything to wear and I felt “frumpy”. Not tonight! I felt cute, sassy and fun.
