Hello, Darling! It has been raining cats and dogs all week and I can’t seem to get into a routine so I just stopped trying, took a break and turned on the tv. I decided to take a break from my Netflix and go over to Amazon Prime Video and check out the choices there. Amazon Prime Video comes FREE with your Amazon Prime membership with roughly 18,000 movies and 2,000 tv shows. Amazon Prime Video has also started to produce their own original content. The difference between Netflix vs Amazon Prime Video? I like them both for different reasons. Netflix seems to have the most recent and most popular shows. Amazon Prime Video has lots of older movies, documentaries, older tv series. I call them “Blast From The Past”. Now… Amazon Prime Video has lots of the PBS Masterpiece Series and you know my love for Brit tv.
Shows To Watch On Amazon Prime
Reverend Hottie Sidney Chambers ministers to his community and helps solve mysteries. What more could you ask for? Set in post WW2, this PBS Masterpiece series has 2 seasons under its belt and I want more….
* It’s 1783 and Ross Poldark returns from the American War of Independence to his beloved Cornwall to find his world in ruins: his father is dead, the family mine long since closed, his house wrecked and his sweetheart pledged to marry his cousin. But Ross finds that hope and love can be found when you are least expecting it. Again another PBS Masterpiece Series. Amazon Prime Video has 2 seasons for you to watch with your Prime membership.
Z. The Begining of Everything
*Z: The Beginning of Everything” tells the story of Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, the brilliant, beautiful Southern Belle who became the original flapper and icon of the wild, flamboyant Jazz Age. This is an Amazon Original production set in the roaring twenties that tells of the passionate yet turbulent relationship of F. Scott Fitgerald and his wife Zelda, a Southern Belle coined “the original flapper and icon of the American Jazz Age”. Another period piece but you know how I love them. This is the first season with more to come
This is the 60/70’s tv series starring Marlo Thomas. At age 24, Thomas became both producer and star in the comedy about a spunky single girl and aspiring actress taking on New York City. If you need a little nostalgia this will work just great. Yes, this counts as another period piece. Love her hair, love the clothes!
Oh, it seems like yesterday we were riveted with the murder mystery surrounding Laura Palmer. You get 2 seasons with your Prime membership
*A gripping family drama and entrepreneurial fable, set in a post-war Paris fashion house. It exposes the grit behind the glamour of a rising business, spearheaded by two clashing brothers. The atelier staff survived one war, but others loom; rivalries and romances pitting family against family, protégés against mentors, the past against the future. This is my next show to watch. Amazon Original that is highly recommended by my daughter and others. Another period piece with gorgeous fashion with some scandal and intrigue are thrown in for fun. Season 1 included with your prime membership
The American Playboy
*fascinating docu-series chronicling Playboy magazine’s charismatic founder, Hugh Hefner, and his impact on global culture. Told from his unique perspective with never-before-seen footage from his private archive, discover the captivating story about the man behind the bunny. I am throwing in some documentaries cause I really like them. This too is an Amazon Original documentary about the history of the original playboy Hugh Hefner.
Any Ken Burns Documentaries
These are PBS produced. I have watched so many because I love documentaries. My favorite is about the Dust Bowl. America Lives, America, Central Park 5, Dust Bowl, Jazz, and Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies is free with your Prime membership. They add more all the time.
A movie this time with Kate Winslet, and Liam Hemsworth. I just love Kate Winslet. *THE DRESSMAKER tells the story of the beautiful and talented Tilly Dunnage. After years working as a dressmaker in exclusive Parisian fashion houses, Tilly returns home to a town in the Australian outback to reconcile with her eccentric mother Molly. She also falls in love with the pure-hearted Teddy; armed with her sewing machine and haute couture style, Tilly transforms the women of the town, exacting sweet revenge on those who did her wrong.
Pride and Prejudice
Netflix has this BBC series too. I am sorry, the Brits just do it better and Colin Firth is the perfect brooding Mr. Darcy **This is the definitive Pride and Prejudice and the most successful TV period drama ever. Starring Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle and a fabulous supporting cast, this BBC/A&E co-production pulsate with energy as lively, witty Elizabeth Bennet charms smoldering, haughty Darcy against a backdrop of a picture postcard countryside, small-town assembly rooms, and stately English homes.insert pic of pride and prejudice
