50 and Over: What To Wear To A Summer Afternoon Wedding

50 and over what to wear to afternoon summer wedding
 Hello Darlings!
It is that time of year, Summer Wedding Season.  My kids are at the age where their friends are getting married left and right.  I have one getting married in late September. I have been to more weddings in the past year than I have my entire life.  It is not slowing down anytime soon.  So I have to UP my wedding attire game.  I have such a hard time finding dresses. Thanks to several manufacturers starting to make more petite clothing and clothing with spandex, I am able to add four new dresses to my closet.
Today’s featured post is on “What To Wear To An Afternoon Wedding In The Summer”.  Here in Alabama, it is going to be hot and humid. The forecast is easy.  Many brides nowadays are choosing non-traditional venues such as barns, plantation houses, outdoor venues. What that equals to is NO A/C.  So in choosing your attire for the wedding, think venue first, then the time of day.
This is what I wore to a recent wedding. Lucky for me, it was INSIDE with the A/C blasting.

The Dress

The dress is from Macy’s INC, International Concept line in PETITE.  Yes! The halter neckline is perfect for showing off my summer tan, keeping me cool, and the neckline that is very flattering on me.  The dress comes with a gold belt which helps make the outfit a little more dressy. The colorful print is fun and the dress flows quite nicely.   Too many pleats on a person with hips is a no no. Macy’s has sales constantly, easy to get a great price.

The Shoes

I paired this outfit with simple nude block heels from Stuart Weitzman (which I got on an incredible sale). The nude heels I am wearing are Stuart Weitzman’s RealDeal. The RealDeal’s are a platform style which makes them more comfortable, not as much of an arch. Nude block heels are all the rage this season and are perfect for an indoor or outdoor wedding.  The block heel gives you better stability and better comfort and at my age, it is all about comfort. You can find them everywhere in many different brands. They are perfect when you wear a bright print because they do not try to compete with it.  Also, when you chose a shoe close to your skin color it is supposed to make you look taller.  At 5’1 I can use all the height I can get, even if it is an illusion.

Why This Dress Works For Me

50 and Over What to Wear to Summer Afternoon Wedding The dress needs no necklace and just simple studded earrings, these are by Kate Spade and very affordable.  I chose to carry this lovely gold clutch from Macy’s INC line to keep my cell phone, lipstick, and tissues.  It was surprising how many clutches did not fit my cell phone with an otter box on. I am NOT taking that thing off.

The Finishing Touches

Don’t forget a manicure and pedicure (no flashy colors). The color I love for weddings is Essie’s Bare With Me and is the perfect pink/nude. Also, go light on the makeup especially if you are outside and going to just sweat it all off.

I hope this helps you when trying to decide what to wear for a summer afternoon wedding.  The wedding we attended, the bride is a lovely young lady and dear friend of my daughters.  It seems coral is a big color this season, it was everywhere at the wedding.
